Royal Mail Revenue Protection Sample stamp

Hi all,
I know Custardy is the one to answer this one but an item I purchased on eBay was delivered with a red circular ink stamp on its label saying Royal Mail Revenue Protection Sample and the date, as well as specifying the location as being Medway.
I assume everthing's ok with the item because I wasn't asked to pay a surcharge etc but I've just never seen anything like it before!

I imagine they check occasional parcels to see if they are within the weight and size limits for the postage paid. Presumably yours was fine otherwise there would have been an additional fee to pay before it was delivered.
As you say, Custardy is the one to confirm what happens0 -
Many reasons for Rev pro stamps.
Can be a basic 'red x' check. This is where rev pro sample collection mail to ensure correct postage, labelling etc (posties on collections can also flag ppi mail to get red x checked if they suspect an issue)
Can be where an account customer has been billed for underpaid postage so the mail is treated as paid and not delayed further.
There's other reasons but the 2 above likely cover your item.0
