Electricity suppliers messed up handover...

Purchased my house back in September 2018, the night before I moved there was a fire in the meter box. There are two meters on the property, one is disused in an outbuilding - the main being in the box on the house. When the new meter was installed the day prior to me moving in, someone (ie. SSE/UK Powernetworks) assigned the new meter with the same number as the second meter on site (unaware there are two)... this has caused a lot problems.
I moved in and called my supplier (NPower) asking them to take over the supply from SSE (the previous owners supplier). To cut a long story short, what followed was a long period of SSE hassling me for money whilst I was paying NPower for the electricity I was using... many phone calls, until eventually NPower told me they were refunding all my payments and transferring the supply back to SSE in order for the duplicate meter number situation to be resolved. This has now been done (about 6wks ago), and SSE have sent me a bill for all the electricity I've used since I moved in 10months ago, naturally at their "just moved in" tariff. My bill is a good few hundred quid more than it would of been - had I of remained with Npower on my previously agreed tariff, or indeed negotiated with SSE had I of not switched supply, which was done within first fortnight of moving in.
Do I have any recourse on this or do I just have to accept the bill on the high tariff?
Thanks for any advise.

Hello seasonalbiz,
I'm sorry to hear of the issues you've had switching your electricity supplier. As the large bill you have received is from your previous supplier SSE, I would recommend you speak with them to discuss it. If we have already returned your payments there is nothing further that we can do to help.
I hope you get it resolved soon.“Official Company Representative"
