Open banking

Is it working for you ?
I have several current accounts that i have tried to add to my main account which is Halifax via the app, its hit and miss, HSBC works sometimes, First direct will not work even though it is on the list, Santander works sometimes, nationwide seems to be the most reliable, starling not on list, i am going to try and add M&S.
This morning none of them are working, not even showing on the app, is anyone using other banks apps that are more stable because i'm thinking its a waste of time myself.

I had a go. Sometimes it worked, other times it didn't. Could only view accounts, not send money. I had my Santander account added onto my Bank of Scotland app. Added to the fact you need to reenter your log in details every three months means its just easier to stick with separate apps for each bank.
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?

Open banking platforms only really work as well as the APIs behind them - each bank has implemented them differently and others work better than others. They also depend on how well the aggregator you are using interacts with them - you don't say which bank's online banking you are trying to add your other bank accounts to? (unless I've mis-read something). Personally I use Yolt/Emma apps for android, and most banks with APIs will interact with these apps quite well - I can view balances/transactions for multiple accounts all in one place without issue (for the most part).

I'm using the Halifax app to add the accounts, iv'e downloaded the Yolt app and looks impressive but nationwide building society and virgin credit card won't confirm despite several attempts so iv'e give up,
i think ill stick to the banks own apps.
  • Must admit that since Fingerprint login became the norm it's less bother to check each bank app individually.

I found it annoying not being able to see pending transactions when viewing my First Direct account on the Halifax app via open banking.

What I'm really after is a way of consolidating all transactions & balances across a dozen or so accounts into a single 'virtual' account that ignores transfers between accounts. I.e. Just show true income & expenses.

I like the fact i can see the accounts i am moving money to and the account numbers on the Halifax open banking app, it is just unstable, HSBC updated the account funds instantly but Santander didn't, i suppose they all work differently, so there is no real benefit to using open banking.

There isn't a bank that's Open Banking ready yet.
All the apps you mention are Screen Scraping your accounts.
I've been using Tandem but that has some issues as well.

I had limited success doing something similar with MoneyHub (costs £15/year 30 day trial) It's all read only (which is good in my books).
But I managed to aggregate several current accounts, Savings accounts and CCs, and even the mortgage into a single view of how much cash we actually have between me and the missus.

Led to some shocking revaluations on how much we spend on groceries :D
