Dishwasher leaves gritty residue on top shelf

Dishwasher is around 2 and a half years old, always been in the same position, was previously working fine. Lately we've noticed a grainy food residue that has been building up on the inside and outside of glasses, I've tried all the usual suspects I can think of - took the arms off and cleaned them for blockages, cleaned the filters, checked the waste pipe isn't blocked, ran the washer empty, ran it with vinegar in it, but nothing has worked, anyone got any other suggestions?

Does it need salt? My glassware went gritty once (liked etched glass) added dishwasher salt and haven't had the problem since. HTH

We once had that, We called someone out and something had fallen into the outlet when we had removed the filters to clean. it had stopped the outlet emptying properly,Like a washing machine outlet.
On a dishwasher it is underneath rather than at the front like a washing machine
