JSA and LEL in P60 problem

Good evening and thanks to anybody that will be able to help me.

- about one month ago I have been made redundant and I applied for contribution based JSA.
- During the tax year 16-17 I have worked in Paye 10 months (from June 2016 to april2017).
- During the tax year 17-18 I have worked in Paye 12 months (all year).
- Job centre today told me that for year 2016-2017 I don't meet some criteria: I have worked 26 weeks in the last 2 years for sure, so maybe the problem is with the second condition: both years 50 times the LEL.
I have checked both Hrmc online account and the P60s and all seems all right: correct total of contributions.

Checking the 2 p60 I noticed that, for the P60 year 16-17 the LEL column is saying:£2430 whereas the P60 year 17-18 is saying on Lel column £5880.

- If the LEL in one of the 2 relevant payslips is less than about £5600 I am not entitled to JSA as not meeting the second condition?

To clarify better P60 of 16-17 ( the one not meeting the criteria): total of the year is £23365, tax deducted is £2541 with tax code 1100L; the columns are: NIC A; LEL £2430, earnings above LEL £930, earnings above PT are £9482 and employers contribututions are £1139.

Checking also the P60 of 18-19, where I worked full year, I read again that the total for the year is £38366 with tax deducted of £5301, but the LEL is again only 2012. WHY?

Basically if the LEL in the relevant p60s is not above £5600 I will not get any JSA, is correct the assumption?

Can be the numbers in the columns of the P60s wrong?

Many many thanks to everybody.

For the level of earnings the earnings at LEL seem far too low. I'd expect all of the years to be around the same level as 17/18.

Are the P60's all from the same employer? Do you have any payslips from those years?
  • 2016-17 are 2 employers but working with no gap from 06. 16 to 04.17. 2017-18 is one employer and the LEL high. 2018-19 are 3 employers with full working all year and LEL is again low.
Can you explain me why? in HRMC account is all ok with contributions. thanks
  • ah I forgot.. I have all the payslips and the correct nin deductions are OK. thanks

When everything is working correctly your P60 will show total taxable earnings and total tax paid for all employments during the tax year.
The national insurance figures will however only show for the employer who issued the P60.
This is because the system of PAYE is only designed to carry taxable earnings and tax paid figures forward from employer to employer; NI details are not forwarded.
