subsidence

ive viewed a property i wish to buy in Portugal but there is a problem with the floor in the annex building it has dropped/cracked/sunk about 5-6 inches a length of about 4-5 metre's on one side of the building, the gradually sloping starts about 2 meters in over,i havent a clue about remedies or costs, but an estimated cost/solution in UK prices would give me an idea though

It ain't on the side of a hill, is it? Google 'Cyprus subsidence' to see how casually the mediterranean powers that be take this, when it's been bought by an English person.

I wouldn't touch it unless you have an appetite for risk and hassle.

    That's quite a fall!

None of us know what the cause is, so can't possibly say what the solution is to give a price.

    That's really quite considerable though...

Even I wouldn't touch it. My in-laws are Portuguese to boot!

    Do you speak the language?

There's always a solution but you HAVE to know what the problem is first.

my partner is also portguese,we offered €20k under the asking price but they countered with only €5k less which isnt enough considering the issue, although if i could get them down another 10 and the problem was only 4-5 to fix i would go for it.

Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, count yourself lucky you noticed before buying and move on, if you purchase and it gets worse, how you gonna sell!
