When I pointed out it made it difficult to close if you were on the short side, she said I should contact Vauxhall if I wanted to complain. (She took offence at any criticism of her new car, she is like that I am afraid.)
Completely understandable.
It’s lucky that it was your sister, someone else might not have been so polite.0 -
I am a wheelchair user, can't stand at all. I have an old bicycle inner tube looped around the inside handle (had one to hand when I got my car) Works a treat.0

Never had or known of a car with a strap. Had some luton vans with it on the roller shutter.0

My missus is 4'9" and has the same problem, also a disability which means she struggles to enter and exit any vehicle: our Hyundai iX20 has been the best option for her, but she still needs a step stool to get in. There are two recessed handles inside the iX20 hatch, but she still cannot reach those and have the strength to close the hatch. I do three things to help her:
*I am fortunate in that my parking spot in front of our bungalow, has a raised kerb to the left (passenger) side, so I park by driving in forwards as close to the kerb as possible and OH is able to get in and out with much less difficulty.
*I open and close the hatch: didn't you think of asking her help to do that? Might be the real reason for the annoyance.
*When we park anywhere else, if I can't find a suitable kerb in the right position, I help OH out, and get the step stool for her to stand on and get into the car. Then I replace the folding step in the boot, opening and closing the hatch myself. I don't need a strap and I have never seen one in all my 56 years of driving different vehicles, but I can see the need for one for others.
I think you will have to choose your next car wisely.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Lost count of the vehicles I've owned, but never had one with a strap. My missus is 5'2" and never had a problem, suppose, like the Chinese, midgets and pigmys you have to learn to adapt to the continually changing world in which we live . .0

Another vertically challenged Skoda owner here, and I also find it useful.
Having said that, I don't recall the previous Renault having anything and I managed. One of those "don't miss it if you've not had it" items, I suspect. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I’ve had 7 cars and not one has had a strap 0

I've been driving since 1974 and I've never seen one either.0
