Cancelling an insutrance policy before it starts

    Those are admin fees, which are allowed (described as a fee for setting up and cancelling the policy). As you can see they are lower than the cancellation fees charged after the 14 day period. Many insurers don't charge a fee at all.

    The OP was charged an admin fee called "setting up fee" because he cancelled

    The fee was always non refundable even if he hadn't cancelled!

    the insurer/broker is entitled to retain an amount of premium to cover the time risk but they cannot charge a cancellation fee. They are entitled to charge and admin fee (which would have to be outlined separately in their T&C's and notified to the customer at the point of sale). T

    All of which is stated in the Terms and Conditions of the policy. and what the OP has been charged

    that there is a £50 arrangement fee which is non-refundable
