An unsolicited request for money without the return of goods or services amounts to begging in my opinion and there are laws to protect us against that. I could rant on all night about how lot's of so called "charities" are really businesses that shouldn't have charitable status at all. A high proportion of the money raised goes on admin, wages, and advertising to maintain a high profile but very little goes on the actual "cause", in many cases. It makes me sick that "moral blackmail" is used to extort money from vunerable people in the name of charity. If it's your money then it's your choice to give or not. Charities these days have lost sight of the fact that donations are a priviledge NOT a right. (end of rant)Light blue touchpaper and stand well back !0

As an ex squady I wanted to make monthly DD to the Salvation Army but when I had sent a cheque previously we had been inundated with requests.
I emailed them to explain my problem and they said that if I did, they would keep me off their mailing lists.
That was four years ago and they were true to their word.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Here is a report by someone who did street fundraising. He says he wasn't on commission, but was paid £8-10 an hour.

Disgusting practice, I am never donating to charity ever who uses these practices. And people who do this to old people deserve sacking and all their wages taken back.
I personally do not think the RSPCA are deserving. They're completely useless in my experience and only interested in going after the court cases for mistreatment, my guess is they get money out of it - which pays people's wages. Not exactly a charity!! If they pay those guys £10 an hour, I wonder how much they paid Simon Cowell to put his voice in an advert.
The PDSA have been *much* better in my experience, and I'm guessing they don't use these nasty tactics. I know which I'd rather donate to.0
