Council Boundary worries

I thought once you occupied land for 7 years or so uncontested, it became yours?
Save that image from Google Maps in case they upload a newer version. Make sure you get the bit at the bottom where it says what date the satellite image was taken.0 -
It’s not affecting anyone. We get on really well with our neighbour and he is just as gobsmacked as we are about the way the council are behaving.
This has all come about because we applied for planning permission again to build on top of the garage. The planner this time raised a query about the boundary and we are now in this situation. Perhaps if the first planner had done this 9 years ago, this could have been resolved then before we built the extension.0 -
Thank you for your responses. I’m very grateful.
I have contacted the local councillor. Waiting on them to get back to me.
I’ve kept a copy of the google map dated Feb 2009 with the old garage, and I’ve sent it to them.
Looking at our title deeds and their surveyors interpretation, it definitely looks like they’ve moved the red line closer to us.0 -
You could always check if adverse possession applies
Youl always hire your own boundary surveyor and see what his opinion is.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
I don't know where abouts you live but if you download google earth the historic photos go back for 10 years so hopefully you can provide evidence that the land has been considered part of your property for some timeSome people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0

The local councillor has agreed to visit us on Thursday. Fingers crossed he can help or support us in some way.0

What happens to the physical boundary line in front of and to the rear of the garage? Is it one straight line from front to back or does the side of the garage stick out towards your neighbour?0

Has the extension been built on the adopted public highway?0

The garage is to the side the of the house pointing towards our neighbour. The boundary runs front to back.
It’s not on a public highway. On the other side of the garage is my neighbour’s side garden (ultimately the council’s). There’s a gravel path down the side. We tend to help with the area because he is disabled and the council does nothing to help him. Ironic they should be so bothered about it now, when they haven’t been before.0
