Help needed please- connect camera to laptop

Asking for help again as Im a complete idiot techwise.
Ive just bought a new laptop and the set up was easy to do.
But, I want to connect my digital camera to it so I can upload my photos as I use ebay a lot.
Ive only had the camera about 6 months and when I connected it to my old laptop I don't recall there being any difficulty. My new laptop is the same make as my last one but when I connect the cable from camera to laptop nothing happens.
On my old one a soon as I connected something called Intelli-studio opened so I could upload then edit the photos but I get nothing on this laptop.
I thought I may have to download Intelli-studio and have tried to do so but immediately got a message from my anti virus protection telling me there was a problem with the download and not to proceed.
Can anyone advise on what I need to do please. Thank you.
