Can anyone suggest a reliable colour laserjet that prints and scans double-sided and is mac-compatible.

No, all these all in ones are horrible cheap stuff. Get seperates. And pay more for a printer upfront to reduce ink costs. And expect to pay big whack for a decent scanner.

That's a really useful link, thanks.
Does anybody know which manufacturers machines can accept compatible toners? I gather some brands won't use them. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Thank you, I've done that and identified some inexpensive ones by Lexmark, Canon etc.
I've had several printers in the past but they were cheap all-in-ones with expensive cartridges as I only had to print occasionally. Now I'd like to print more copies and also scan quite a library of materials, so I'm prepared to pay more than for my earlier machines.
I'm keen to know if anyone has experience of suitable machines.
I've ended up with a Brother machine that doesn't scan double-sided, doesn't interact with macs, doesn't really even print with any of the older computers we've got at home. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
