also what are you using to play it back?
Windows media player should work.
Try downloading and playing through the "VLC player"Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
both windows media player and media centre played it but the sound was missing on both. when i tried real player it said it needed to download an update and when it tried to it said it cant work with windows vista. the dvd by itself plays fine with full sound it is just the imported video from the dvd that has no sound. i was just trying it out because i want to send short clips from my camcorder via email by first putting them onto dvdr and then onto the pc. i am trying to avoid buying a firewire cable because for something that would only be used once in a blue moon they are a bit of a rip off, like most cables are.
i have one question about firewire cables. when the instruction booklet for my camcorder says it recomends that i only use their official cable, can i ignore that and get a different brand? or should i believe it and only get the official branded cable. it does look like i may have to go and get a cable if i want to send camcorder clips via email.
it is also a bit annoying if i cant save films and tv shows onto my pc from a dvdr.0 -
i know you can get a FW cable delivered for less than £5.
as for cable brand - it's nonsense. Any cable will work absolutely fine.
FW is the standard way to move data from video cable to computer and if you intend on doing this more often i'd say it's well worth a fiver.

It's the sort of thing to throw into an order to make up the value to the free postage threashold.
Indeed if you ever need to bulk up your order always go for a cable of some sort! They come in useful all the time - i have about 3 shoe boxes full of cables!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. thanks i think i will do that. one thing has occurred to me that may or may not have made a difference. i used roxio creator basic but i have just noticed i also have roxio my dvd basic which has an import option. would that programme have been better or would it have made no difference?
once i get a firewire cable, should the pc be able to work with my camcorder without the software that came with it or will i definitely need to install the software that came with the camcorder? i am just worried because the camcorder is 2 years old and i have windows vista.0 -
i can't help with regard to Roxio - i don't use it myself.
If you are looking at bringing in raw video from a camcorder it would be well worth looking at windows movie maker.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
