There is a reason for that. I do not want another strip light.0 -

A clue as to the size, style and wattage needed would help, as would the type of kitchen.
You may have a kitchen like this:

Medium size kitchen. Not looking for anything fancy.0

Suggest you go to a shop that sells [mostly or only] lights and ask them for advice.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

This. If you're replacing an existing light fitting then it's a simple DIY job. The only restriction is your taste and the depth of your wallet. You can buy light fitting from anywhere - B&Q, Dunelm, online, probably any number of lighting specialists in your local town. Just go and have a look and see what takes your fancy.
One consideration to bear in mind, seeing as how it's a kitchen - do you want a standard type dangly light, or would something along the lines of spotlights be more practical, so you can point the light to where you need it ? But really, have a look around the shops, there are thousands of different types available.0
