No idea what to do if anything!!!!

We have a log burner in our extension and since yesterday there has been a strange noise coming from inside the flume (i think thats whats it called
).
It sounds like a bird possibly or maybe a squirrel. It resembles a scratching type noise. It stops for a few mins then starts again.
I have opened the fire and taken the insides out as much as possible to see if anything falls out, nothing!! So I presume if something is stuck it stuck at the part where it starts to bend to go outside.
I have spoke to my hubby about this and he says we cant do anything about it and we should light a fire and put whatever it is (if anything) out of its misery:( , because it will starve to death anyway....
The flume is cemented into the wall, so i cant take it out and besides its huge... OMG what would you do? Leave it? start a fire (would have to get my hubby to do it)?
I cant see there being any other option...I feel really cruel even suggesting killing it

We had a pigeon fall down our chimney and even though we called the sweepers company they couldnt arrive for 3 days. The scuttering noises we heard eventually stopped sadly.
When the Chimney sweeper arrived he connected all his brushes together and I went outside to see if anything came out of the top.
Imagine my surprise when a live woodpigeon was thrust out of the chimney and managed to pull itself together and fly far far away - lol
If you can afford it then call out the chimney sweepers, ours is only a small gas fire but it was worth getting the chimney cleared anyway as he said soot was slowly blocking the air way0 -
Sadly cant afford a sweeper, o well i hope he stops making noises soon. I feel really bad listening to it, poor thing0

Had something die down my chimney and I only knew about it when loads of flies started coming through the vents in the gas fire -was rank!
Deffinately get it swept or atleast taken off the wall so you can get the dead animal out!0 -
I pay £30 for a sweep, it's better than letting the animal die in there, plus the smell when it starts to rot is going to be revolting. Especially if it's far enough up to get heated by the fire, but not incinerated. You might also get maggots dropping down the flue, and then flies. I'd rather pay the sweep. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0

Thanks very much for the tip, fortunatly because its a log burner, when its lit there wont be no dead animal left... my dad used to own my house and he said its happened before....Think i need to look into getting something to cover the hole, mesh maybe to cover the top of the funnel, to prevent this happening again.0 -

Expected it to be more than that, will call a few companies and see if they can help tomorrow0 -
Our's wasnt much more than that and we're in London. Its probably why he was in such high demand
