Thought I'de contend with repair person deeming my 9 year old Bosch washer dryer as beyond repair (very small leak)
Thankfully I can use it until I purchase a new one.
In a panic and determined to continue with help2save I thought why not try for one of those guaranteed cap 1 cards (I have one already 34.9 I think)
Anyway can't complain about only being offered limited credit of 400 pounds.
Strictly speaking new washer dryer 369+20install+25 recycle and remove previous machine -very reasonable as I'm 3 floors up.
Thinking maybe I could use existing non 0% card which I had hoped to continue to reduce and then transfer most of the new machine balance once card arrives -I have very little or no hope of paying it all off in 4 months -nearly 100 pounds per month, though I can try my best.
Is this a good plan considering the Emergancy circumstances
Thanks in advance mse'rs

  • I don’t understand the question.

Do you want to purchase on the Cap1 card then transfer to another card offering 0% on balance transfers?

No I want to purchase on existing aqua card then transfer from that card to new cap1 card when it arrives.

Your current card has 4 months 0% left, and that's on purchases, or is that the Cap1 card?

0% 4 months 400 pounds credit was only accepted online today.
It should arrive next week or two
Not quite the full amount of washer dryer though not far away as such.
What I'm trying to do is purchase washer dryer online today by using existing 35% apr Aqua card. Then transfer maybe 300-350 across to 0% Cap 1 card (when it arrives)
Reason -I'm trying to avoid using help2save account which could make upto 600 pounds extra next April.
Hope that explains my thinking to mser's

Why don't you use the £252 in your Virgin E-saver account to help pay for it? I understand why you don't want to touch the Help2Save cash but sometimes 'life' happens and we have to make choices.

The Virgin savings account (which your 'sign-off' says you have) is not really doing you any good when you are faced with paying interest for a purchase. You may be thinking that the cash is for unexpected expenses - but isn't this one of those? You may also be thinking that once the Virgin cash resource is gone, you'll have nothing left for the unexpected. Well, you will have the credit card for the unexpected and you will be able to rebuild the savings pot by saving the money that you will now be having to throw at your cards to pay for the washer/drier.

Another idea that you haven't considered is saving for a few months at the same rate as the card debt repayments would be, then using the cash to help buy the washer. You have said the leak is small; might it be collected in a container as it happens for a while yet?

I know we are all different in the ways we approach debt and money in general but I do struggle to understand your particular approach. You are on a DMP but you still seem to think it is best to run up more debt. Perhaps you should re-think your overall strategy to becoming debt-free and then start to concentrate on saving.

Sorry, I'm not trying to criticise, and you may be experiencing tough times, but sometimes it is just better to clear the slate first.

I;ll try and cover some points.
The latest Cap 1 card is 'complete' 4 mths 0% transfer 4 mths 0% purchases.
I have only ever attempted curry's paypal credit a year or two ago and didn't get passed eligibility -I suspect though can re try today that I won;t get passed it since going part time during 2017 and ongoing sc dmp.
250 is recently in VM e-saver- I have quotes for replacement kitchen floor tiles or quickstep vinyl -from Monday -I was hoping e-save funds would cover cost -though not sure.essential requirement.
This account proves it purpose as short term home/car emergency fund-not looking to make any kind of interest as such.
