Yes, I've been doing this for years...I just make a bit of a dip in the clothes at the back of the drum and put the powder in it so it doesn't get flung all over the glass when the drum starts to rotate...it dissolves ok even on a 30 degree wash.:)Best headline ever on local paper??

I still have an old liquid ball thing and used to put the powder in that at the back of the drum then it didn't all go over one or two bits of clothing. Worked a treat.
Don't use powder any more have gone over to liquid as find it easier.
Don't use fabric conditioner at all and haven't really noticed much difference but do try to line dry as much as possible.0 -
Yes I don't think I will bother with the conditioner this time0

I like the tablets, I always seem to get powder all over the kitchen however careful I am. The big brands seem to have stopped making tablets in favour of those horrible capsules which don't dissolve properly and leave snot like residue on my clothes. However Morrison's and Lidl still do tablets that work really well. I often only use one tablet or just half a tablet depending on how mucky the clothes are and how large a load.
I use liquid for delicates but a washing machine repair man said the liquid doesn't clean machines properly as there is no bleach in it so I don't use it all the time.
Anything mucky or stinky and I add a dash of napisan to kill bugs off unless it can be hot washed.
I only use fabric softener on knitwear and fleece items. I'm not sure it's good for the skin on underwear etc,Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -
I use Aldi non bio liquid, and only about half the measure ,then top it up with ordinary soda crystals.
In the conditioner drawer I put a measure of white vinegar (it doesn't make the clothes smell at all). Once done and hung on the line they are sparkling clean and fresh.
I have been using soda crystals (washing soda ) for the past 60 odd years and it's fine, my late Dad was a chemist, and he said it was as good as anything for cleaning and washing stuff (mind you he used methylated spirits and scrunched up newspaper to clean windows ,as do I ,also excellent solution for cleaning around the house )
You can buy a good sized bag of washing soda in the supermarkets for about 60p
My hand and bath towels are supersoft and never get that hard crunchy feel ,even older ones .0
