My wife is currently involved in a on going insurance claim which she believes is a crash for cash claim as the cars never touched.her insurance is due next month so does she have to declare this incident at the time of renewal or wait for the outcome of the insurance company investigation to declare any fault?thanks paul.

Read the small print...... then answer truthfully.
I would be surprised if it wasn't declarable.0 -
It's probably going to be easiest /only possible to renew with the company with the on going claim. But yes, declare it.Paulcortina wrote: »My wife is currently involved in a on going insurance claim which she believes is a crash for cash claim as the cars never touched.her insurance is due next month so does she have to declare this incident at the time of renewal or wait for the outcome of the insurance company investigation to declare any fault?thanks paul.0 -
That was the plan but the renewal quote is £500 more then last year and the accident is not mentioned in the renewal paperwork,so once the insurance has carried out the investigation it could go up even more. It's probably going to be easiest /only possible to renew with the company with the on going claim. When getting quotes on line etc they ask questions about the accident likeRead the small print...... then answer truthfully.

Who was at fault
Cost off repairs
Was the car a right off etc.
It’s hard to answer as the investigation is on going.0 -
When I renewed my insurance last year I had an on-going claim that wasn't my fault (I wasn't in my car, taxi driver hit my parked car) I had to enter this as a fault claim even though it wasn't. I asked when it would finally prove in my favour would I get a refund on my insurance, the answer was no!
I went with a different insurer as my premium had shot up by almost 50%.
If in doubt give your new insurer a ring.0 -
I have got a few quotes on line where I have entered in the accident section that the crash was the wife’s fault and the quotes went up a little but were all a lot less then the renewal quotes by around £300.When I renewed my insurance last year I had an on-going claim that wasn't my fault (I wasn't in my car, taxi driver hit my parked car) I had to enter this as a fault claim even though it wasn't. Paul, most years my renewal quote has shot up - seems to be standard tactics for car insurers. Happens that this year was the first that didn't, with LV (went up by about £5 for the year). Usual advice, shop around.
If you want to stay with existing company, worth ringing them with a few quotes to hand from well known brands that are cheaper, and saying you'll renew if they match them - their choice then.0
