Notme and not my car!

Hi, Any advice on this situation please? My son has received a penalty notice for a contravention detected by a roadside camera which captures the reg plate of the vehicle as that of my son's car but it's not in fact his car. He lives in the midlands and this took place in London and he was no where near London. He has rung the council involved and they told him to phone the police who said they aren't interested unless it is happening multiple times. He intends to appeal by sending a written letter together with images of his vehicle pointing out discrepancies' with this vehicle and his vehicle. Ie: the photographed vehicle doesn't have the same style of number plate and lacks some dints in the bodywork that are on my sons. What do you think are the chances of getting the charge dropped? And why aren't the police interested? What if the vehicle with 'cloned' plates had run over someone? Anyone else experienced anything like this and what was the outcome?

I had a parking charge as a result of ANPR. I sent photos of my car which showed it was not the vehicle in question (different colour, different shape). As it happened I also had proof of being elsewhere. Charge dropped.

Because ANPR is not that accurate and misreads are common, it may be a blurred image that the software has tried to enhance for example which has resulted in this error.

Best place to take this is pepipoo they are the experts on real fines, this forum majors on fake parking charges.

100% if he follows the appeals processes at all stages and doesn't ignore any letter. What he MUST NOT do is assume it's sorted and ignore a Charge Certificate or something, as that risks bailiffs turning up.

Deal with it urgently. In addition to the appeals process stages, this week, ring the DVLA (not YOU, the registered keeper) and complain about them handing out his data when it was not his car.

How could the DVLA be aware of a cloned vehicle in a way to stop them providing information when requested?

Complaining to the DVLA about them doing so will do nothing to aid the situation, waste the DVLA's time and wasting the registered keepers time.

    Insufficient resources.

That, obviously, is a more serious office and as such would receive a higher level of attention.

No-one said the DVLA could have been aware of a cloned vehicle.

You appear not to be a newbie at all. You post like about ten alter egos.
