Tax return forms

Options
We have run as a side (partnership) business for 24 years and always completed manual tax returns.
For the last few years we have had problems with forms missing / not being sent by tax office, this year we have had nothing at all, no partnership form or individual tax forms.
Is anyone else having this problem ? I have downloaded them from the govt site and will fill them but it seems idiotic that they can fine you for not returning a form that they never sent you.
We actually closed the business last June so this will be our last returns.

since we live in the digital age the expectation is you will move towards using software to submit your tax return - I agree that is a pain for a partnership since it means having to use commercial accounts software, as HMRC do not provide online partnership returns

harsh, but reasonable, that HMRC expect you to self assess and therefore manage your own tax affairs including remembering what to do and when. Thankfully we do not yet have full nanny state where everything is spoon fed.

It is your responsibility to tell HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) if you think you need to complete a tax return.

Not getting a reminder from HMRC to file a tax return where one is required is not a reasonable excuse to appeal against any late/non filing penalty applied by HMRC

Fortunately the Gov.uk website has a simple tool to help you decide if you should be submitting a tax return

Unfortunately, HMRC does not currently have their own facility for partnerships to file their tax returns online, but as the above poster indicates, commercial software providers do offer such products if that is the way you wish to file.

Otherwise, you can revert to the traditional paper method. The partnership tax return form is available here:

My OH has had issues too - forms not received or not acknowledged. She realised she didn't have last years return back and is still waiting for the promised copy.
