Stocking up a college bag

I can't think of many extras, but this is a lovely idea. A fold down reusable shopping bag (not sure where the college is, but if it's near any nice shops, there will be lunchtime shopping trips), and a small umbrella. The chance of getting rained on whilst changing transport seems quite high, and being wet all day isn't fun.
Aside from that, is there anything she needs for her courses, or any good to haves?Make £2025 in 2025- £751.88/£2025

A kindle. It'll help pass time on the commute. I've only recently got one and wish I'd had one years ago for my old work commute
A water bottle which is thermo so keeps her tea warm in the winter and cold drinks chilly in the summer
It's really thoughtful of you to do. Very kind, she's a lucky girl0 -
ok depending where she is living the thing my younger son found most useful was a bike (secondhand) it wouldn't fit in bag but a bike lock which was essential would. He used it to get to Uni and also as the only one who also worked so didn't get into huge debt used it to get to wok and backk for free. Strangely he met his (hopefully she is lovely) future wife at work even though they live many miles away and re met just as friends in an area new to him. I never knew getting him a bike and lock would have such good consequences! Also a cook book he was the only one who saved money by buying reduced stuff and cooking it himself not relying on takeaways and ready meals suspect he was healthier too!!!0

Can't really think of any else that hasn't been mention.
I just wanted to say that the idea is a really lovely thoughtful thing to do. Good work!!!0 -
Hi, she's living at home (it's sixth form years) and will be commuting around 40 miles there and back. Not sure how many days this will be for per week until she enrols and gets her timetable.Taplledraw wrote: »ok depending where she is living the thing my younger son found most useful was a bike (secondhand) it wouldn't fit in bag but a bike lock which was essential would. Some lovely ideas on here, thank you, just need to start putting some together.0 -
I used to travel a lot by train for work.
What was most crucial for my happiness was:
Headphones
Thermal mug for chilly mornings (alpkit do One that deals up completely, so can just be chucked in the bag)
A waterproof hat, never have enough hands for an umbrella and often left them places. The hat though can get shoved in a pocket.
I did once know a lad who always made up a hot water bottle and put it down his jumper before going for the bus. Might be a bit bulky though 0
