deleted items in gmail?

I have lost about 4 pages of emails from my gmail account. Surely it is not possible to delete 4 pages by accident?
If it is, is there any way to get them back.
Otherwise, is it possible I have hidden them?

I recently installed gmail on a different pc. It installed a newer version which wasn't showing the most recent emails. The default setting was to separate emails into different folders so they were there but not in the inbox. Can't remember exactly how I fixed it but it was simple, I just changed a few settings.

From memory there's a drop down list to the right of the word "inbox" on the list of choices which appears on the left of the screen. Can't remember what the options are, maybe someone using the newer gmail can help.

This might make more sense. https://support.google.com/mail/answer/18522?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en

This is not possible. Gmail is accessed via the Gmail website (no Gmail installation) or via an email client (no Gmail installation). You cannot install Gmail on a computer.

Thank you for the correction. I used the incorrect terminology due to rushing. I accessed gmail on a different pc which loaded the newer version.

I'm sure your correction will help the op.

Maybe not but it could help people reading your incorrect information.

Even if you deleted them, they should stay in the bin/trash folder for 30 days before they completely disappear.

In the left hand menu (which starts with inbox) click on "more" (probably towards the bottom of that list, then "bin" to see if the missing e-mails are there. If not, look through the other options in that list to see if they have been moved to a different folder.

Failing that if you know what any of the e-mails were about or who they were from, you could do a search on appropriate keywords and see if they can be discovered that way.

Go to the Google Mail website and look for a folder called 'Important'. Google decides for itself what it thinks is important and puts all sorts of stuff in there regardless of attempts to stop it doing it. I found nearly 3GB of old messages in mine and deleted the lot. Now it's trying to fill it up again so I empty it daily and decide what I want to keep in my own iMap folders.

Go to Gmail, go to Settings, go to the Inbox header then to Inbox Type, select the dropdown arrow and choose your own inbox settings.
i.e. change yours from showing Important first to Unread or whatever you decide is the best for you.

Gmail has many default settings, but it's up to the user to choose their own settings for their own convenience - as with pretty much all things these days:)

Looking for emails? Check the All Mail or Trash / Bin 'folders'. The emails have to have the relevant boxes ticked to be archived (filed) or deleted
If you have set up filters then sometimes emails get sent to the wrong one.
