Harassment from debt collectors after previous tenants

It is the same ones over and over. Main one is Northampton County Council, also there’s been other councils from London, Birmingham, Manchester, all for motoring and parking offences, loan companies are the same ones repeatedly and the care home also.0

I have contacted the council.0

Just bin all the letters and keep a copy of your tenancy agreement by the front door. It's no real hassle and nothing to get worried or stressed about.0

All you old users just confuse everyone new posting with that image, The Default Skin and even the (2014 redesign) is this.................................0 -
I experienced similar with an old property I used to live in.
Although mine stopped when I called the police (it was parking fines) and told them that the person no longer lived there. I'm sorry that hasn't happened in your case. Unfortunately, I don't think there's much which can be done. I still get a ton of old letters from previous tenants but I just ignore them and - as I believe it's illegal to tamper with mail - it all just goes into a drawer.
However, if this is really causing distress then it might be worth seeking legal advice regarding harassment. Also, make sure you have a paper trail of all the times you've informed places or spoken to people.0 -

It's only an offence if you're planning something detrimental to the named person.
It's not an offence to otherwise open it.0 -

It sounds like this could all be avoided by simply contacting the bailiffs/DCAs by email with a copy of your tenancy agreement. They aren't going to want to waste their time once they know the old tenant no longer lives there.0 -
I've had the same. There should be a number on the letter. Call that and explain the situation.
I then sent a copy of my council tax bill to the bailiff company to prove who was in the house.
Check if the Bailiff Company is registered with the CIEVA. Simple Google search and if they are and keep contacting you contact the

Having gone through a similar situation myself, I completely empathise with your situation and the harassment you are facing.
If you don't start addressing these systematically, the letters will progress to bailiffs visiting your property, sticking threatening letters on cars on the driveway, dropping letters through the door, etc. This can be very scary/stressful for other people in the family who don't know what's going on and think you're in some sort of trouble. Not to mention neighbours seeing a bailiff notice plastered on to the windscreen of your car on the driveway, bailiff letters for you being left at neighbours', etc
See my thread here for a similar experience https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5931566
I followed sourcrates advice here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=75117426&postcount=6 and managed to get it down to a trickle but it took a good few months and properly knowing my rights.
Good luck!Jellybeanx wrote: »Is there anything I can do to stop 2 years of harassment from debt collectors and bailiffs after the previous tenants of my council house?0
