Struggling to find info

Options
I am struggling to find out if I can claim for PPI, as I actually paid off my mortgage in early 2018 (January, or February).
I cannot find any information concerning if i qualify, or not.
Can you advise, please?

    Did you have PPI?

If you didnt pay any PPI then there is nothing to complain about (there may not be a reason to complain if you even paid it)

Most MPPI was paid with a separate direct debit from your bank account. So, were you paying a direct debit to an MPPI provider?
  • We definitely had a mortgage protection policy, as the bank insisted on us having it. We took the mortgage out in 1987 and paid it off in 2018.

A mortgage protection policy is a term that also covers life assurance. Sometimes, it even was used in reference to MIG (high loan to valuation charge).

So, were you paying MPPI or life assurance or MIG?
  • Mortgage payment protection. If we lost our jobs we could claim payment protection.

There are no qualifications as such. You complain that you were mis-sold this 'mortgage payment protection' way back in 1987.

Do you think it was mis-sold?

No one "qualifies" to make a complaint about insurance.

If you feel you were mis-sold, make your case to the Bank and, if they agree with what you put forward, you will be refunded.

It's not somehow automatically "wrong" to have insurance, though. What complaint reasons do you have?
  • I feel like I've entered a multiple question quiz! We knew we were paying for mortgage protection, as we couldn't get a mortgage unless we agreed to the banks terms.
Does mortgage protection come under the terms of PPI?
If 'yes', does the fact that we paid off the mortgage in early 2018 negate us from claiming back PPI?
I am not technical. I have had 9 mini-strokes (post mortgage), and do not understand whether the encouragement of people to claim before the deadline, applies to me, or not.

In your situation, I'd go to the Citizen's Advice Bureau and attempt to explain your dilemma. Hopefully, someone there will be able to explain it to you (and won't charge for the service).

Under no circumstance should you approach a Claims Company...
  • Thank you. I will ask CAB.
