Any idea why Halton Borough Council has put up congestion charge signs (white C on a red background) on the Mersey Gateway bridge?
Do they think it means something else

Think they are trying to tell people charges apply.No. 83 in £365.00 in 365 days 17/365
Jan lunch to work days 10/200 -
Well, if people can't see 8ft Square signs then they are not going to see 1ft diameter signs on a bridge support.
I doubt if people outside London even recognise them. I didn't and had to look them up.0 -
They are trying to correct the mistake they made in sign posting it as a toll. It is in fact a (Road User) Charge. C for charge!0

It means something else. It means charge, as in toll. See the Dartford crossing.unforeseen wrote: »Any idea why Halton Borough Council has put up congestion charge signs (white C on a red background) on the Mersey Gateway bridge?

It’s a toll. See any dictionary. (“A charge payable to use a bridge or road”).jbainbridge wrote: »They are trying to correct the mistake they made in sign posting it as a toll. It is in fact a (Road User) Charge. C for charge!0 -

Can't get a street view of the Dartford crossing on my tablet for some reason.0

Actually the sign is not officially recognised as a valid sign to be used for tolled roads and bridges. It was designed for and intended to be used for congestion charging.
Unfortunately Dart and now Mersey Gateway have jumped on the band wagon and have started misusing it. And least the Tyne Tunnel still use the correct signs0
