Capability for work: UC v ESA

I've done a search and keep reading about assessments for ESA with 3 or 4 month processing times but I am on UC.

They received my form on the 20th June and have been told I'm not having a face to face. :j

Are these handled by the same places?
Are there any differences in the process of getting a decision?
Is it still 3 months for a decision on UC?
I'm Ever hopeful!

Normally the wait time to get LCWRA on UC is the assessment period after 3 months have passed from the date you were referred for a work capability assessment (when you've provided your sick note). So really it could be closer to 4 months depending on when this is.

On ESA it's after 13 weeks (or it should be!)

Only with limited exceptions it would be paid earlier than this.

Maximus deal with work capability assessments for both UC and ESA.
  • On my first claim I got my decision after just 10 weeks on esa but didn't get the support group component added on until the 14nth week,my nephew only waited about 8 weeks for support group none of us had a f2f.

The rules for esa and UC are just the same It really just depends on how busy they are as to how long you wait.

So you are saying that now the report has been sent back to the DWP, ESA and UC are all dealt with by the same team? so the wait for the decision is the same?

There's no timescales for decisions, it depends on backlog in your area.

The health questionnaire doesn’t go to the DWP. It goes to an assessment service who will decide whether or not a face to face assessment is required and will prepare a report which they send to the DWP who then make a decision about the ESA or UC entitlement based on the report.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
