Curtain pole down - batten/plinth?

One of the curtain poles in our bedroom came down (it wasn't put up by us!) and the other is on it's way.
The walls are plasterboard, the plugs were the metal self-drill plasterboard type though a bit shorter than we've been using for anything we've done. The holes are filled, and now we need to decide whether to use a batten/plinth or just try straight into the wall.
Looks naff, but presumably is a bit sturdier and my taste in curtains, when we come to replace these, runs to the heavier sort.
Thoughts?

Can you not find the studs and screw them into these? I had this problem too and replaced the pole with a track mounted on the ceiling screwed into the joists.Solar install June 2022, Bath

It's unlikely to be a stud wall in a brick built house.
OP says they were fixed into plasterboard, which is usually on studs or battens.Solar install June 2022, Bath

I got fed up with the poles and tracks working loose so I've been replacing mine onto battens.
To be honest, you can hardly see the battens behind the poles, particularly as I've painted them the same colour as the wall.
It feels much more sturdy than into the walls directly.0
