Ok not sure if this is in the correct place.
My daughter was 16 on Saturday and I put in for her first passport 3 weeks ago(had to have adult as stupidly too late for childs). This morning she received a letter for an interview.
I dont have a passport so no idea how it works and my other daughter has a childs so that was straight forward, so these may sound dumb questions but I have no idea how it works.
Do they send the birth certificates back? Thinking I should put in for mine and then we could go to the interviews the same day. We live 2 hours away by car to the nearest so no way will she go on her own.
Will she be able to take someone in with her? She suffers from anxiety so I dont know if I'll get her in the room on her own.
Wondering what they will ask her? Shes just 16 and the only I'd she has is a national insurance letter. I filled the form in and paid on my card, she hasnt seen her dad since she was 3 months old although but I put him on as otherwise I needed my parents birth certificates and marriage certificate.
Sorry these may sound dumb questions but shes terrified of going already and yhsts just receiving the letter.

There is absolutely nothing to be anxious about, it is not a kind of exam where if you don't answer correctly you can't have a passport. The interviewer will be friendly and not intimidating, just making sure with a bit of conversation that your daughter is not pretending to be someone that she isn't. Any required documents will be returned.Evolution, not revolution0

Hi thanks, I'm hoping to apply for mine so we can go together but I'm not sure if theres a time scale for making the appointment as we've not received birth certificates back yet.
I've read the link that was kindly put on the thread and most of the questions would be irrelevant to her but it does say she needs photo I d.
Not sure what shes supposed to have shes literally just turned 160 -

As she’s under 18 you will be able to sit in with her but you’ll be asked to leave if you butt in and answer for her. There’s nothing to get stressed about. It’s just a friendly chat to confirm her identity. She’ll probably be better on her own. The interview officer will make her feel at ease. Oh. And there are no wrong answers so no need to swot for it. She will probably get asked about school. How she gets there etc. Family, house etcBugster123 wrote: »Ok not sure if this is in the correct place.

She won’t need photo ID. That’s what her passport will be. The office has her application on screen so they can see the photo she submitted and ID her from that0 -

An adult passport is valid for 10 years, while a child passport is only valid for 5 years. So it's a good thing really...Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
My brother had to go for an interview for his first passport, he got EVERY question wrong, eg what are your sisters date of births/birthday whats your mothers maiden name etc except for "how to you know the person who signed your passport photo" Which was a colleague of my dad and met my bother when he was weeks old. They didn't think he would get the passport but half an hour later someone walked out and gave it to them.
Basically don't worry and maybe make sure your daughter knows your maiden name (even if its the same name you have now) and who signed for her photoThanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada  :dance:0 -
I remember going for mine - nothing to worry about, I hadn't a clue about my mother's family or where she was born etc - just told them she was dead and that was that - they could check that info easily anyway, it was just a chat, they asked who I banked with, my mobile phone number, last address and what sort of house we lived in, passport arrived a few days later..0

If she is anxious about this will she be OK when time comes for her to travel?
It is all just another life experience , it will give her confidence to see that she can indeed 'do things' herself.
They just need to make sure she is who she is supposed to be and entitled to the passport.0
