Update to the above for people in the same position. A company called economy 7 have offered my boyfriend the below

    Day: 15.12p
    Night: 11.87p
    Standing: 13.63p

    economyseven.co.uk

On a variable tariff but it works out as approximately £52 a month so it looks like we'll be going with them
Are you certain they will accept a 3-rate meter with 2 MPANs? Will they charge only one standing charge?

Sorry, could you clarify? My tenancy agreement was only signed a few weeks ago and has a clause preventing electricity or meter changes without permission.

The meters don't even belong to the landlord. They belong to the electricity company, who can swap them for new ones whenever they please.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Frustrating update; despite saying so yesterday, economy seven have now said that they can only support the meters by charging one flat rate to both and applying 2 standing charges. It is still cheaper than other options but the quote has gone up a lot.

Instead, I've gone to the landlady to discuss changing the meters. From what I've been reading, I can have the meters changed but she could request they were put back at the end of the tenancy.

If you remove the related meters scenario they cannot be put back later, no supplier will install them now and some, such as E.On, are actively removing them. The LL charging is usually if a pay as you go meter has been installed. You could always ask the supplier if they will install an E7 smart meter - nothing your LL could do about that !

If you can post up a photo of your meters and the wiring to the consumer units someone will be able to quickly see what needs to be done to change to a single E7 meter. There could be some rewiring needed or it may simply just need the meter swapping.
