Cancelled Direct Debit

Hi,
I cancelled a direct debit with a company last Thursday so that I could set it up on a new account. The company informed me that they had cancelled the existing direct debit, and I got a GoCardless request to create a new direct debit on the Friday.
However on Monday the payment ended up attempted to be taken from my old account, potentially costing me banking fees from an unauthorised overdraft.
I told the company what had happened, and they said that the submission for the direct debit payment had already been submitted on Thursday morning so it was beyond the point they could cancel it. All future payments will be from my new account though.
Is there anything I can do about this? I know it's such a small amount if I do get charged by Natwest, but it's just really annoying.

Not really. You need to be careful about how and when you cancel direct debits.
You'll have to beg NatWest for forgiveness if you do get charged, but keep your expectations low.0 -
When you cancelled the Direct Debit with the company did you also cancel the Direct Debit with your bank?30+ years working in banking0

I would speak to the bank if I were you and explain the situation. Did you top-up the account to end the unauthorized overdraft quickly?0
