    Presumably, any attempts to open the machine will negate the warranty.

    As it is clear that the machine has been opened by the marks around the screws, Apple will not repair for free.

    Think about it. You could have opened it yourself, had a poke about, damaged something and then expect Apple to fit the bill. Also, if the buyer has swapped parts, how will you explain that?

    I wish you luck, but I don't think you have a leg to stand on with Apple.

    The buyer sent me a photocopy of the Genius Bar work authorization letter he received from Apple.

    Under the cosmetic condition sub section it says “there is no damage to the computer and internally the device is pristine”

    Does this mean that the Apple employees opened it up to check? If so, wouldn’t they have observed that it had been tampered with before recommending a replacement/repair etc.?

    I suppose the buyer could have opened it up again AFTER taking it to Apple but then how did he get it to stop working before taking it to Apple?
