Amazon flex driver rip off

Whether you like it or not you were not underpaid by Amazon, you just failed to do you due diligence on what was a business venture.
And your comment that we are Amazon employees is pathetic.1 -

Quite. I worked for myself and amazon were not a customer.
My issue is that you took a job knowing the rate and complained about it afterwards, when it was clear that the rate would be poor after you had taken costs out. Those costs would include goods in transit insurance, depreciation, maintenance, which would bring the rate down even further.
Purely a guess, but I suspect that if you are in an area with few if any outlying areas, it can work ok. If you drove in Birmingham, you'd probably get an area within the city and that would make the rate a lot more attractive.Yes I'm bugslet, I lost my original log in details and old e-mail address.0 -
I only took this job to try and test it for its workings and wrote what I experienced.
if you want to pick on the 'Slave Labour' words, instead of looking at the bigger picture, under paid workers by Amazon, then that's entirely up to you I suppose.
As for picking on the distance on the example route, its 18.6 miles to fk5 area of falkirk,Its just an example for people to work out if its for them or not
£25 for around 5 hours hard work is Slave Labour for the 21 century in my books.
I Cant understand why you people are sticking up for a company who are underpaying there workforce,Obv Employees of the company :rotfl:
I'm ONLY scratching the surface with Flex Drivers. Wait till I start on the Van drivers and I take a job in the warehouse to see how that works out payment wise and post here.:T
It's not £25 for 5 hours work, It's £45 for 3.5 hours of deliveries. If your distance from the depot and the fuel efficiency of your car etc means you have high expenses then you shouldn't take the job.
The fact is that enough people are happy to take these jobs for this rate of pay so why would you expect them to pay more?
There is certainly not any slave labor going on here and if people were that unhappy with the rates of pay nobody would take the job and then they would have increase the pay to get people.0 -
The rates are 45p for the first 10,000 miles and 25p thereafter but claiming mileage won't get you anything 'back' when self employed.
Who can use simplified expenses
Simplified expenses can be used by:

You are right about the 45p a mile. It was 40p when I went self employed, I just leave it to my accountant.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. This seems like nothing more than taking a job and finding it was not as you expected - but largely because of your own failure to think it through.
You got paid £45 to delivery 35 - 43 parcels, 3 1/2 hours work.
You cannot add your commute time either way and expect that to be paid. That is something anybody has to absorb in any job.
As self-employed, you can offset the mileage expenses against tax when you do your tax return. Do Amazon pay for the business insurance for your car?
Also, the £20 in fuel that you state, at today's pump prices equates to about 160 miles in even a fairly inefficient car. Again, it is not fair to include the commuting fuel as that is a hit anyone has in any job. As it is 50 miles form your home to the depot, maybe that is just too far for this type of casual contract.
Speeding tickets are also your risk and can be avoided - not fair to blame Amazon for this.
I applaud you taking a job that is maybe not what you would normally do, given the strange times we are all in, but when that worked out just not as great as you hoped, move on and chalk it up to experience - no need to run down the company as this is a form of work that does suit some people in some locations very well.jamo2012 said:I only took this job to try and test it for its workings and wrote what I experienced.

Still, good luck with it, and we'll see you soon on a series against Stacey Dooley or Donal MacIntyre.2 -
Do you think every employee that is on minimum wage gets petrol paid for and travelling time paid for, and if they do not can then turn round and say they are being paid less the minimum wage?0
