Mortgage protection insurance

I'm looking help before I contact my insurance provider.
Last year I successfully claimed 12 months of illness insurance cover for my mortgage. I'm still currently 'off sick' but not in receipt of any benefit because my husband works more than 23 hrs a week. I had to give up my own business last year and cannot work due to nerve damage in my hands after carpal tunnel operations.
My question is.....if a policy states 'one claim in any one period'....would I have to have a break in sick lines to enable me to claim a second time or will this period of sickness/unemployment count as the same period?
I hope that makes sense and someone can help me!

Most income protection plans with a limited claim period require you to return to work for 6-months before being able to make another claim for the same condition. If the claim is for a different condition there may be a shorter requirement for you returning to work but I'd still expect there to have been a need to return to work.0
