Green flag renewal

Hi all, just had my renewal letter from green flag. As usual, the price has jumped a bit, despite no call outs.
One line says I'm on auto renewal, and cancelling my policy will result in a £10.08 admin fee. Is this legal ? Charging me to NOT renew my breakdown cover ?
Cant be, surely ?
Help needed asap please
Thsnks

Your not cancelling the policy though are you?

Your just not going to renew, unless it already renewed and you missed it. Then £10 maybe fair.

It seems that there are TWO Green flag systems.

One is titled Mayday for caravan owners and promoted by the Caravan Club, which I used for 20 years without a problem and does not have Auto Renewal.

Last year having sold the caravan I renewed my cover online - Big differences - Not even the same phone number for Breakdown call out or a Membership Card to tuck behind the sun visor.

Spotted the Auto Renewal clause in the T's & C's which says the customer had the right to opt out, but nowhere was it stated to whom or how the customer should advise the wish to opt out.

Wrote letter with postal certificate to Customer Services the day I received the documents, opting out of Auto Renewal - Almost can't wait till next Aprils renewal date

That's the whole point, with Mayday the customer has to take a positive step to ask for Auto Renewal, but with online green flag it's mandatory unless the customer opts out by informing an undisclosed office by an undisclosed method

We just phoned the renewal hotline number & told them we didn't want to renew.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • As so often it pays to be aware of renewal/cancellation details.

However, most people seem to fall foul of these practices, especially with insurance products.

'cancellation' happens if you wish to end the contract during it's life-time.

'renewal' happens at the end of the contract life-time.

Ring up and say you do not wish to renew when the current contract ends. Take the name of the person you speak to and note the date/time of the conversation.

If you are paying by direct debit, cancel it with your bank.

If you are paying be auto-payment on your credit/debit card, you have no control.

Personally if I've been forced to agree to atuo renewal at the start (often required to get a cheaper internet price), I'll cancel the auto renewal a month later rather than wait till the last minute.........
