Sorry, but this short sighted grudge seems very perverse to me.
When earning a generous salary, I was happy to pay tax.

After all, the tax I paid contributed to the state education system (that had helped me acquire the qualifications enabling me to earn a good salary); the NHS; the roads and infrastructure that got me to work; my local council and the local parks and facilities; the police, fire, and ambulance service to keep me safe; my future state pension; a social security safety net in case I fell ill and was unable to continue to work; etc.

Currently that selfish attitude you attribute to your friend, has enabled politicians to hollow out valuable public provision.
I don't know about you, but I feel un-nerved by so many homeless people in our town centres. I would much rather pay slightly more in tax to ensure there was adequate mental health provision within the NHS.
BTW, the current provision for NHS child and adolescent mental health is frightening poor, and is likely to create many future social problems.
Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.

Hi Alice, I will let him know your thoughts (think he's on this forum so he might respond).
Personally, I agree with your comments. However being on this planet for well over half a century its made me depressed how sad the human species is and how it conducts itself. I cant wait to shuffle off this earth some time soon.
I have a tendency to mute most posts so if your expecting me to respond you might be waiting along time!
