Has anyone set up a jumble sale trail?
Looking to organise one locally but don't know where to begin!
Has anyone attended one - any good?
Thanks

Is there a demand for one in your area? Quick google finds several websites that tried and failed to start one.
Will it be a washout if it rains? How many will say yes and then last minute find they have a change of mind or wanted to do one but genuinely cannot make it?
Easier if you have a clump or properties in a small area, but if its scattered across several streets with only one or two on each street then its going to fail.
Also think about the parking, is there adequate parking? Will other neighbours complain when someone inconsiderate blocks their drive with the excuse i wont be long because they dont want to walk an extra few feet.

There have been a few car boot sale trails around here. It's good fun. People who want to sell sign up, pay a fee towards a charity and get their house put on a map. Buyers then can download the maps.
I have been to a few and because they are spread out over an area you don't have loads of people turning up at one place at the same time so parking hasn't been an issue. It hasn't failed because people are scattered over a few streets. They've been well-attended from what I've seen."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Will it be a washout if it rains? i cannot get rid of this risk though - i live in the UK! if we took that attitude we would never do anything How many will say yes and then last minute find they have a change of mind or wanted to do one but genuinely cannot make it? always a risk for any event
Easier if you have a clump or properties in a small area, but if its scattered across several streets with only one or two on each street then its going to fail. The whole point is it is over a wide area so you drive between clusters. you get to know your wider community better
Also think about the parking, is there adequate parking? Will other neighbours complain when someone inconsiderate blocks their drive with the excuse i wont be long because they dont want to walk an extra few feet. Good point - you would have to put some guidelines in place
Are you an active member of any local groups? yes i am and have posted in those groups and there is interest

One site was a failed attempt from what i gather they were looking for help and investment, maybe they didnt have a clue what they were doing?
For me having them spread out far enough to need to drive around to see them would be a big no. Smaller cluster would be better in my view.
Guidelines for inconsiderate drivers, good luck
Idiots who only care for themselves are plentiful.
Small handfuls in one area maybe worth the drive, but im not going to drive several streets to see one house with items for sale and then repeat.
Maybe others think differently? How far will you drive to see what one person has for sale?
If you can park and then goto half a dozen and them move on, all the better?
Maybe a proper old school church sale? Bring the community together?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Tunbridge Wells did one recently & called it the Tunbridge Wells yard sale. I didn’t get to it as not that local but they seem to have done it for a couple of years. Perhaps worth having a look at their info & asking the organisers for advice?
They did a map of participating streets & there appeared to be quite a few. 🙂Lurking in a galaxy far far away...0 -
My village does one once a year and it's really good.
They pay £10 for a table which is donated to charity and they get their house number on a map.
SO much better than going to a normal car boot-sale where it seems to be the same old trash being resold each week. It attracted people who would never normally do a car boot sale but want a clear oit.
I got some amazing bargains!!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
