PIP - Section 3 original

My son is on PIP and has been in hospital for 28 days so I have reported this appropriately and his PIP will be suspended until he is discharged.
My question is he has been returned to hospital on his original section 3 of the Mental Health Act which started before he was 18. He went onto a CTO (again before he was 18) and recalled then put back into the original section 3.
My question is - should I have reported this as I know PIP doesn’t stop if the hospital stay started before 18? Is it classed as the same hospital stay or was I right in reporting it? Not sure in this situation.
