Octopus direct debit reset

Has anyone else had a problem with Octopus recently with them saying they want to reset your direct debit not long after joining them using figures they say are provided to them by data regulators?
They just tried to triple my direct debit after 45 days. They have one reading from me already which is in line with what I say it should be. They won't tell me who gave them the data or where it has come from (apart from these mysterious "data regulators").
Seems to me if they want to use those figures then they should use them to quote when people sign up not just over a month after they have taken on a new customer.
I have resolved it as I will be leaving them immediately, but I see from elsewhere they have had problems with cold calling sales methods and this just seems another example of sharp practice by them.

Octopus E answered someone on its Facebook Page that around the 45 day mark they do as you say based on historical data, they do however say that if the customer contacts them the issue can be sorted out.( equally none of its tariffs currently have exit penalties)
I dont think its acceptable someones quote and subsequent signup is based on usage they input then after 45 days an energy company seemingly thinks it knows better.(upwards)
Ironically Octopus Energy Facebook Page has title "you deserve better"0 -

Are you moving house today then?
If not, you cannot leave your supplier immediately; it will take at least 17 days from applying to a new supplier ... possibly a little longer.
Furthermore, you don't want to be thowing your teddy out of the pram, and paying more as a result, due to a simple issue that can easily be resolved.

As many have posted to say on Octopus Energy Facebook page they are not the cheapest by a mile, thus changing energy companies may well result in paying less.0 -
Please consult a comparison site to find the best deal for you. Presumably that is why the OP recently moved to Octopus?
Consider enrolling into the MSE Cheap Energy Club so that your tariffs are constantly monitored and you will be informed if they are no longer the cheapest
(other providers of this type of service are available)
