help getting xbox 360 online. router ASDL ??

right here goes hope this makes sense. I have a ASDL modem connectting me to the internet. not wireless .

i have a xbox 360 and would like to go live.

i have been given a bt 205 ADSL router by a friend who says i can use this and get online ?

im confused . what do i need to do ? do i need a router or would i be better just buying a wireless modem?

i dont want to go out and buy something i dont need.

can i not just plug the xbox straight into the computer ??

any help much appreciatted thank you .....

  • You may have to give you XBox 360 a static IP address, and then add that IP to the DMZ of your router.

    As the Xbox isn't likely to be infected by anything untoward then you are safe putting it in the DMZ

  • thanks red rose , think im going to give up trying to hook it up using the pc . going to buy a wireless modem and xbox wireless connector. its seems a easier option .

    All you need to do is to put your username and password into the Voyager router so that connects to the internet. Next, you need two network cables - one to go to the computer, one to go to the Xbox. The Xbox needs no configuration. You'll need to go to Control Panel, Internet Options, Connections and select "Never Dial a Connection" to prevent the computer trying to dial out with the modem.

    thank you very very much , one question do i take the modem off and just go through the router? i think the answers yes but better make sure. i will try this tomor
