Morning, I'm going forward for a mortgage next year so started checking out credit files/scores.

As of this month (so it won't show up yet) I have a zero debt at all, but previously had a couple of defaults and missed payments that I cleared literally two weeks ago.

Anyway on Credit Karma (previously Noddle) I'm showing up as 511 which "needs work" and isn't good at all, yet my Experian is "Good" at 920.

How can I have such conflicting scores/ grades?

Any advice would be good on which is likely to be

    a) more accurate in general
    b) looked at by a mortgage lender

Ignore any scores. Read why here-

if only poster's did a quick search, it'd negate the need to post.

info is on main site, and on here most days.

Not exactly. All people have seemingly done here is use my post to put down credit scores and reply with their own agenda.

I actually asked why they would be so conflicting, I'm now more are about how they are generated and work, and am grateful for that despite the condescending tone used by people.

That doesn't change the fact that being ranked 1/5 on one report and in the 4/5 "Good" region by another still puzzles me some-what.

Surely you'd expect to be given fairly similar credit scores from companies, despite their lack of actual worth, given they're all assessing the same data you assume.

Also why don't you speak nicely to new people and encourage this forum to grow, as opposed to use this as a way to try and belittle people.

Indeed. I have been saying this for some time! It's not helpful. Yet they continue to do it to appear "smart".

No-one is trying to belittle you. I agree that some of the posts may come across as a touch condescending, but I doubt that was the intention. I believe most of the posts are trying to be helpful and to educate you on the validity of scores.

Since, I am here, I might as well add my two cents. The reason your scores are conflicting is probably because the three CRAs do not often report the same data. If they do not have the same data, then your rating and scores may appear to conflict one another.

Also, please bear in mind that a lenders neither sees nor uses your 'credit score'. This is because a lender scores you independently against their own criteria and policies using the data held in your credit files, added to the data you submit in a credit application, added to the data they may already hold on you as an existing or returning customer.

  • They’re conflicting and indifferent because they aren’t representative of the real world.

No one company can score you with a blanket number or universally since they are not privy to lenders confidential lending criteria.

The CRA’s are not the one providing you with credit so cannot possibly rank you.

    MSE even confirms this:

There's no such thing as a blacklist. This is a myth. In the UK, there's no uniform credit rating or score, and there's no blacklist of banned people.

Each lender scores you differently and secretly.

I agree too, most were, but there seemed almost a playground element to some replies.

Thank you for your input, I do now understand the scoring system far more. One CRA looks at my data (or at least the data they have) and gives it one score, another gives it another, etc.

All I simply asked was why they were so far apart. I know this can be a good place for advice and asked, however won't ever be doing so again.

Being truthful and leading people away from deceit isn’t “appearing smart”.

It is indeed being smart to stop people getting suckered into marketing BS and taking out likes of credit for the entirely wrong reasons.

You were given “good” and honest advise.

Not sure why you won’t be coming back again.

You’ve been listening to the taking dog on the ClearScore advert too much it seems.

There is a way to do that though that some people lack.
