BG - existing customer
We have a dual fuel tariff with British Gas and the fix ends at the end of July. They've been offering me a new fix and I went online to check their offers. Two offers for existing customers, none very exciting, but at the bottom it said something like, these are the only tariffs we offer on this website, but we may offer other tariffs if you check elsewhere.
I went to the MSE club and got a much cheaper tariff from BG, one of the top 5 for us, with an additional £25 cashback.
I'm glad to get a cheaper rate, but I thought suppliers were now obliged to offer their cheapest rate? Is this a way round it, having different offers in different channels?

Your latest bill from BG will show you their cheapest rates.
PS The general school of thought is not to do dual fuel. Use the comparison sites twice - once for gas, then electric - using your actual consumption for the last 12 months.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
OFGEM rules say that the supplier must show the cheapest offer that you can get directly from them on your bill.
However other OFGEM rules state that energy companies can also offer tariffs only from third party price comparison sites. So these deals cannot be mentioned on the bill as the supplier does not offer them direct.0 -
Another reminder not to trust the Tories!
Remember this promise made by BoJo's Etonian schoolmate 7 years ago?

I only get quarterly bills, and I'm almost due one, but the last bill didn't have any deals as good as I can get from MSE.0 -

That makes sense, and is what I suspected when they kept sending emails asking me to renew. Two opportunities to retain my custom, a higher rate through them or a lower rate through a comparison site if I go there.0
