Gas n Electric - Students Renting - How to choose supplier?

My daughter and 8 other students are renting a house in their 2nd year at University. They are just taking over the tenancy from this month. They have to arrange their own Gas n Electric supplier etc. Any advice on best companies to use, approach to take to organise? I am not sure they will be able to get details from previous tenants on usage over previous year.

Any advice greatly appreciated.
