Am I going to be arrested?

  • Don't worry about it people talk a load of crap at times. If full & final settlements or making money was illegal I'd have been locked up years ago.

  • As you can see from my post count I am a newbie to all this, so maybe not the best person to take advice from but.....

It's not up to anyone else what you do with it!!!

The majority of people on here are very helpful and friendly but with any kind of web based forum you will always get some people that are a bit odd.

I'd say congratulations on coming into the money for a start (as long as it was legally obtained!!!)

From what i've learnt by being a serial lurker on here i'd say try to pay off what you can before investing. If you have a bit of bad luck speculating to accumulate you could lose some of your lump sum and then it'll not get you anywhere.

If no one is interested in F & F then it's probably as they think that they'll
get the long term benefits of you paying them the interest rather than your lump sum.

What are the APRs on your debts?

Why not pay off in full the ones with the highest APRs first and then tackle the others as soon as you can?

You'll pay less interest and your credit situation will improve as your credit file will show some settlements rather than multiple outstanding.

That way, if you do want to buy a house, you may get a better interest rate on a mortgage through having a better credit rating, which in the long-term would be better as a 1% lower mortgage deal would be significant on say £100k?

Don't know whether i'm looking at this the right way but if i had a lump sum (if only!) that'd be the way i'd go

    Anyone?

I often spend time browsing on there and they can be a funny lot. They even started a thread the other day asking to ban any talk of house prices falling thus starting another thread discussing the subject :rotfl: .

Well there's not really much you can say to that...

Yes, that is virtually always the right way to go, but circumstances do need to be looked at.

    Hello there again,

I have read your whole thread and that *squat* person is just an idiot. He was spouting a whole load of tosh. Please don't worry about it. At the end of the thread you had a few people saying the same thing (that squat is a moron) and giving you support.

You can spend your money on whatever you want but I personally don't think a BTL property is a good idea in your situation, what I know of it.

If you want full and final settlements, stick the money in a bank account with a high rate of interest or an ISA or something like that, and wait six months, then offer them again.

If you want proper financial advice, go to a financial adviser or, for your debts, go to CCCs or Payplan.

Stay calm, and don't worry about twits,

    Gale

Firstly, I am "one of those" from the Buying/Selling/Renting forum and I'm not strange or funny, I promise ;) But honestly, reading that thread, apart from one sarky comment, you actually were the first one to throw an insult, which is hardly going to endear you to anyone. Or do you think that saying "Perhaps you should find your owner so they can return you to your cage" is a nice thing to say to someone - regardless of what they've said to you? And even the person who initially made a sarky comment later made a very constructive post - perhaps not what you wanted to hear, but constructive nonetheless.

As for the other post which I believe you are primarily referring to, that poster does stir up quite a lot of threads. I believe a lot of people may have him/her on their ignore list. But honestly, one person aside, there are so many helpful responses on that thread, and you really should listen to them. It seems awfully like you don't want to listen because they are not the responses you want to hear, but there is a lot of solid advice. As for the less polite comments - well, you get them everywhere, but more so on the Internet. My belief is genuinely that if you cannot deal with the odd sarky comment, you should really not be on the Internet, because people often seem to be a bit blunter here than they might be in real life. But you need to toughen up and take them with a pinch of salt. No one's going to kick your door down, no one's going to arrest you - just calm down, walk away from the computer for a bit and rationalise the situation - it's not anywhere near as bad as you think. :)
