They all do the same thing so get one based on size, looks and budget.
Remember your drainpipe attachments.0 -
Check with your water supplier first - they often have cheap ( or occasionally free) water butts available.
Other than that - if you are a keen gardener and do a lot of watering, get the biggest you can fit in the space you have. They empty surprisingly quickly.0 -
Our one had two different holes already in it when we got it so you could feed a pipe into it either through the side or through the lid. We were getting mosquitoes breeding in it so I plugged the hole with a wine cork.
would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .

There's definitely no 'a' in 'definitely'.0 -
Top tip: Make sure the outlet tap is a convenient height for your chosen bucket/watering can before it (the butt) fills up.
If you've a sloping garden, with a little consideration & some hosepipe you can position the butt down near where the water is needed, with just the diverter at the top of the garden
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -
I got one of the IBC 1000 lt butts years ago for £20,
IBC 1000 Litre Water Tank
stands concrete blocks & pallets so its raised off the ground by 2ft0 -
ALDI usually have them on sale a couple of times a year and they come complete with a stand.
I have two and am satisfied with them.
(Can’t remember the price but were reasonable)I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -

I'd love one of these, but delivery would be a problem - my fantasy was to bury one, have the excess feed a pond, and plonk an old fashioned standpipe in the top. As it stands I've an inherited gravity fed system that I've terminated on one side of the garden with a tap bolted to one of the greenhouses - planning to run another hose down the other side as/when

I have four water butts I got them online from evengreener they do butts for Yorkshire water or did when I got mine. You do need them up from ground as said so you can have height for a watering can.
As for IBC tanks there not really suitable for houses unless you like the look of them I have one on allotment.0 -
I too have four water butts - all different. None bought at full price, most when a DIY place was closing down, able to get one for a fiver or a tenner!
Over time, one split at the bottom, otherwise no problems.
Best one I have is from Wilkinsons - I got it at the end of the season when they were selling off their garden items. Why is it IMHO the best - the outlet tap was integrated into the unit, with the others it was a two person job to fit the tap - one crawled inside to tighten the nut, while the tap was held in place!

Try facebook/gumtree etc, they are often available for around £200
