Screening ideas for ugly house wall?

Good morning!
We're tacking the garden bit by bit and I need some help please.

Our kitchen window is driveway side and faces the neighbour's house, and their horrible yellow and tan (YELLOW AND TAN!!!) mismatched brick wall. There's a bed with hydrangeas there but it doesn't hide it well.

I'm looking for ideas for things that will grow tall but won't cling or affect their foundations (we're more considerate than they are!) that will make us happy when we see it all seasons. Something that's good for wildlife too? I had thought about a pyracanthus against the wall but I'm worried about it not growing tall enough and having too many spikes. It's out of everyone's way but pruning those doesn't sound fun!

Husband says no more laurel...

It's a shaded area. Something that will cover well would be good as it really is a hideous sight :o

I'm wondering about maybe Garrya but I'm not sure!

All suggestions welcomed! :)

Thank you!
Lucy
