£1 Car/van rental?

I came across this yesterday and thought I'd post it in case anyone had any use for it / any experience of it.
Basically, people (mostly rental companies) need to get their vehicles from one city to another, so if they have a car needing to get from Glasgow to London, you can rent it for £1 in Glasgow and drop it off in London which saves them the hassle of getting it transported.

Looks legit and seems like a good idea, just wondering if anyone has an experience of using them / a similar operation?

It's not exactly flexible...
If I want to do a journey next weekend, I have a choice of six routes. Three are Glasgow to London (Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton). The others are Inverness to Manchester or Leeds, Truro to Newcastle. Later this month? Swap out Inverness-Manchester with Edinburgh-Gatwick.0 -

I looked the other day at hire costs Edinburgh to London return the other day.
It was about £200
If it fits or nearly fits for £2 its a big difference0 -
Thats why I said £2. you would plan and book a returnEven if it didnt, you are looking at a 50% discount for total hire cost0

Obviously the deals they have depends on who needs to get their car from where to where.
But assuming it gets busier and has more routes you could plan your journey around it. IE, Get a hire from Edinburgh to London and then source a return hire somewhere close to London (Milton Keynes / Reading etc), where you can get a train out and pick up the car for £1 (if there was nothing available from London to your return destination ... or even get a hire from Reading - Glasgow and a couple of trains).
It all depends on what cars they have available.0 -
Its obviously a scheme that works otherwise they wouldn't offer it but your travel needs would need to be flexible to make it work for the individual.
The Hertz depot in Nottingham appears to be popular.0 -
Its usually returns to airports. but as already pointed out, its only good for a one way journey, unless you are flexible, as finding a vehicle that needs to do the return journey is limited.
I have done it in the past, as it saved on airport parking fees, and cut travel costs, as i only needed to pay for a taxi one way.
unfortunately, my experience didnt go to plan, as the hire company recorded the mileage on the car wrong, and charged me £300 for excess mileage (you have a set number of days/miles in which to get the vehicle to its destination). It took me months to get it sorted and money refunded0
