Halifax BOS - Not closing my Current account - What to do?

Hi,
I have been struggling a lot to close my Halifax BOS account.
I had submitted application (on 6-OCT-2007) to close my account, in the branch and surrendered my cheque book and debit card on the day.
After few days, I received a letter from them saying as per the application, they will be closing my account but I need to surrender the cheque book before that and also If they don't hear anything from me within 10 days, they will keep my account active - assuming that I no more wish to close the account.
I had spoken to:
1. the branch staff - who dealt with my case
2. Customer Services Team
3. Complaints department
Everybody promised me that the account will be closed 'shortly' but the account is still active.
I sent an email to financial ombudsman to complaint about this at
'complaint.info@financial-ombudsman.org.uk' but to my surprise no response to my email even after 10-15 days.
Who can help in this case??

Write to the Halifax - try their Chairman at HQ, also contact Watchdog especially as they have already accepted your cheque book etc. over the counter. Rather than emailing the Financial Ombudsman, write them a letter and send it recorded delivery.
I shall be writing to the Halifax myself as I closed my account with them in 2003 but for some unknown reason they have started sending me statements saying that I have 57p in the account - I cannot withdraw it because I don't have a debit card and they won't hand it over because I closed my account - I just go round and round in circles.
Good luck0 -

Not true Mr Smartypants - the OP has stated that they have surrendered their cards and cheque book. If you close an account in person you do have to surrender items, if you are opening an account with a new bank, they do it all for you.
For your information, I don't have debts and have any had any fraudulent dealings with the bank or dodgy goings on and it is probably true of the OP.
Here's a tip for you - if you can't say anything nice then as we say in Birmingham Keep Ya Gob Shut!0 -
Just to add.. I had also withdrawn entire balance on the same day..
Basically, the branch staff has agreed that they have received all the required things.. but still not acting on it..
Thanks for advising me to contact HQ Chairman Halifax and Watchdog.. but could you please let me know how do I contact them??Iamthesmartestmanalive says...
Have you surrendered all cheques, cards etc
Is it a zero balance
Is it within your terms to cancel when you want?
Tbh I have never been asked to surrender stuff, this is normally reserved for those with dodgy goings on or debts with them
Yes..its having zero balance after I withdrawn the entire balance
I am perfectly in terms to cancel...as they never asked me any questions when I approached them to cancel this account...
