Government ECO scheme boiler

I have been looking up information on the governments ECO scheme to get a free or heavily subsidised boiler replacement.

I receive Personal Independence Payments (PIP) and my boiler is estimated to be around 12 years old, may be older and I'm a home owner. From this it seems I qualify.

Regarding the boiler, its a Glow Worm 30cxi and a label on the side that it was fitted with a Sentinel X100 inhibitor during 2007 at some point (the date has faded). So, it is 12 years since that date, whether this was added after it was installed, I do not know for sure. I purchased the house nearly 6 years ago.

I have had my boiler repaired twice in the 6 years of living here, each time cost around £300 including labour.

Has anyone had any experience of claiming with this scheme and who did you use?

EON & EDF seem to do it for anyone for £240.
NPower offer free or subsidised, but they use 0800 Repair?
On google, there are sites like Boiler Grants, RST Boilers, Boiler Hut etc.

I'm wondering if it's worth applying in case the government drops the scheme before it breaks completely. However, I do not know the best, safest place to go for it. Someone like EON and pay the £240 (maybe more but will be told beforehand), or try one of the free ones. Any ideas?

Just because your boiler is 12 years old does not mean it automatically needs to be replaced. We applied for a free one and were told, for all it did not work, we did not qualify as, when new, it was 1% too efficient for the government's criteria.

Never mind the fact it was about 20% efficient by the time we had three different firms out to quote; the only thing that mattered was how good it should have been when it was first installed. Typically moronic government scheme, imho but have at it! Who knows, you might be lucky.

    HTH.

No. You need to be on a means tested benefit. PIP is not a means tested benefit,

PIP is listed on the governments website as being eligible if living in private housing and getting PIP:
