Nuisance calls from Nationwide

For the last week or so we have received 3 or 4 calls every evening purporting to come from the Nationwide. A computer voice mentions our name and asks us to press any key to continue.
I thought it was a scam but my local branch say their HQ has a computer problem. But why are they doing it, the "voice" says it is not marketing.
The caller ID comes up as 0845 600 5707 which I gather Nationwide say is a genuine Nationwide number.
So what is going on? Is anyone else getting these calls?
Or is it a scam after all, remembering they lost a laptop full of records sometime back?

Just to say that I am with Nationwide and I haven't experienced this (yet).
Please keep us posted about this phenomenon.0 -
A number of the banks use an automated call system to verify debit/credit card transactions which they are concerned about. If you have used your card for a large transaction or are not spending within your normal pattern, then these automated call systems ring you to verify some details.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0

Are you pressing any key to continue, or just hanging up? I've had a couple automated calls from GE Money, both times to verify transactions that I'd made.0

If I get a phone call and an automated voice starts talking, i just hang up straight away. So if the bank were trying to contact me in this way, it would backfire on them (or would that be me??)0

If you have been told it is genuine - press a key and see what happens.
If you think it is not genuine, you could sign up for BT call barring service."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I wish I could get someone - anyone - from the Nationwide to call me back! I have an ongoing problem with them and their so-called Customer Service Team is a joke. I have written to Graham Beale, the Chief Executive of Nationwide, today to complain about the way ex-Portman customers are being discriminated against.0

I believe you will find the robot is a genuine Nationwide robot, I had a similar before I got out the bank from hell and I received one of these ridiculous voice messages, it was a query concerning a cheque payment which they had screwed up, but the robot voice is a Nationwide generated toy.0 -

Hi
I have received calls from Nationwide surveys
The calls that I have received do not come from the Nationwide Building Society, they are from a company calling themselves
Nationwide Surveys which is part of
Tele Prospects Ground Floor,
West Wing,
31 Waterloo Road
Wolverhampton
WV14DJ
Phone number 01902 710101
I phoned their office and asked if they were anything to do with Nationwide Surveys, the operator asked who was calling and I repeated the question adding that I would like to speak to someone from Nationwide Surveys,
she said OK can you tell me what the call is about.
I replied thank you, you have just answered my original question
There is also another thread on this site re this company.
They appear to want as much info as possible including email addresses, which they sell on to marketing companies.
Hope this is of some use0 -
Survey calls from an unrelated company of a similar name are not the same as those being mentioned on this three year old thread. The OP was getting debit card/credit card transaction confirmation calls (anti fraud verification).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
