Find out who the address is currently with (there are online sites for this) and contact them with meter readings. You'll be on the Standard tariff. You don't "join" as such, you sort of inherit the previous resident's choice.
From that point you are free to initiate a switch to whoever you like, but bear in mind you will need to pay for the energy used between you moving and the switch occurring.0 -
The sooner the better - do it while it is all fresh in your mind. Make sure you keep a record of meter readings - take a photo if you can.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Hi everybody can i switch suppliers as soon as we move into our new house or do we need to sign up with the previous owners supplier and then switch? thanks Mark
Just as you cannot switch bank account unless you have a bank account, you cannot switch energy supplier unless you have an energy supplier.0 -

Just a minor point but it causes confusions. As a new occupier you become responsible for any usage and daily standing charges from the date you took over the tenancy or ownership of the property and not from the actual date of moving in.
Suppliers will sometimes use their own estimates of an occupants end read and a new occupiers staring reading as their estimates may be more reliable
.Photos of meter readings have no bearing other than as a personal reminder to an occupier. A photo is not proof of an actual date of moving out or moving in.0
